The Chuffed Store came to Kitty, seeking an agency to design and build a new eCommerce website to house and attract quasi-local suppliers and artisanal smallholdings within their marketplace.
Given their unique offering; placing human connection back into the centre of shopping, The Chuffed Store needed a fully responsive eCommerce platform to cater for their makers’ needs, and a design-based strategy to provide an immersive and inspirational experience for the user.
Kitty designed the site with The Chuffed Store’s strong brand identity in mind, ensuring there was an editorial feel across the BigCommerce site in order to inspire ideas through engaging content, drive community spirit and encourage return visitors.
Our initial planning suggested BigCommerce was the right solution for The Chuffed Store, however, in post-discovery sessions we quickly realised the functionality required would need a different solution. The Chuffed Store required the functionality for makers to administer their “store”; add new products (to be verified by The Chuffed Store), take payment and ship their products to their customers. As the Chuffed Store works on a subscription model with its vendors, this solution also needed to allow for commission payments. This led us towards the flexibility provided by WordPress twinned with WooCommerce.
We understood that The Chuffed Store was unique as an online marketplace, our solution allowed us to ensure the new site’s functionality would facilitate as many makers’ as possible accessing the site to buy and sell products.
